Zephaniah 1 Outline
Announcing the Day of the Lord
Introduction: The phrase “day of the Lord” is used 25 times in scripture and 4
times in Zephaniah. New Testament references include Acts 2:10, 1 Corinthians
5:5, 2 Corinthians 1:14, 1 Thessalonians 5:2, and 2 Peter 3:10. We see pictures
in nature such as hurricanes, forest fires, earthquakes, tornadoes. Imagine all of
these thrown together. And then that is not even close. This day:
- A Day of Doom for the unrepentant (Zephaniah 1:2)
- A Day Described elsewhere in scripture – such as (Isaiah 2:12, 13:6, 13:9
Jeremiah 46:10 etc) - A Day that Defines God (Zephaniah 1:12) for those diests in the verse!
- A Day of Distress (Zephaniah 1:15, 17)
- A Day of Desolation (Zephaniah 1:13, 15)
- A Day of Darkness (Zephaniah 1:15)
- A Day of Devouring (Zephaniah 1:18)

Hidden from the Heartache?
Introduction: In Zephaniah 2 Israel is given an opportunity to be hidden from
the destruction and wrath that is ahead
- Wholesale Avenging (Zephaniah 2:1-15)
- Hezekiah’s Ancestor (Zephaniah 2:1) (probably)
- Hidden from Anger (Zephaniah 2:3)
- A House Appointed (Zephaniah 2:7)
- Heartache in Ammon (Zephaniah 2:8)
- Horror Ahead (Zephaniah 2:14-18)
- Hubris (Pride) and Affiction (Zephaniah 2:15)
Zephaniah 3 Outline
After the Storm
Introduction: Zephaniah 3 describes a regathered and restored people of God,
but not before all the evil is burnt away (verse 9)
- A Polluted City (Zephaniah 3:1)
- People who are Treacherous (Zephaniah 3:4)
- Princes who are Corrupt (Zephaniah 3:4)
- Priests who are Defiled (Zephaniah 3:4), but THEN
- A Perfected Earth (Zephaniah 3:9)
- A Pure Language (Zephaniah 3:9)
- A Praising People (Zephaniah 3:20)
