Salvation

What is Salvation?

Getting saved, according to the Bible, is as easy as drinking a glass of water, or opening a door…

John 4:14 “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well springing up into everlasting life.”

Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

Yet folks always seem to find ways to complicate matters when it comes to their never dying souls. If you want to be saved, you must put aside your church membership, baptismal certificate, sacraments, confirmations, and especially the list of “good things I have done” at the door. The Bible is very clear that it is not by works that we are saved, but by mercy!

Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;”

If you are reading this and you do not know that you are a sinner headed for hell, first, you are not being very honest. The most moral person on the planet cannot stand up to the ten commandments, much less the other 600+ laws. Have you ever told a lie, even a small white lie? Have you ever stolen something, anything? Have you ever used God’s name in vain? Did you ever disobey Mom and Dad when you were a teenager? I know I couldn’t even get past the very first commandment… Mark 12:30 “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”

How could I say I loved God, when I didn’t even know Him? If you don’t know for sure that you are saved and on your way to Heaven, then you don’t know Him, either. If you broke just one of the ten commandments, then forget about getting to heaven based on your goodness.

James 2:10 “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” The fact is you are a sinner in God’s sight and deserve to spend eternity in hell.

Romans 3:10 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Revelation 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

I hope that you are ready to get past your personal self-righteousness and get down to the crux of the matter. You are already condemned and on your way to hell and you need a way out. God provided this way out. He provided a substitute to take your place and judged that substitute instead of you.

I Peter 3:18 “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:”

Romans 5:6 “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.”

Jesus Christ became your substitute, dying in your place, taking the wrath you deserved. When you personally receive Him as your Saviour then and only then are your sins forgiven.

Colossians 1:14 “In whom we have redemption, through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”

John 1:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”

Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

All you have to do now is call upon the Lord Jesus Christ and ask him to save you! It is that simple. God made it simple so that even I could get it. I know that you can get it.

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

So, why don’t you call upon Him right now and get the most incredible gift you will ever receive in this lifetime. I have provided a prayer below that sums up what we have discussed, but remember God looketh upon the heart, if you don’t mean it, then don’t bother.

“God, be merciful to me a sinner. I realize now that I am a sinner deserving of hell. I believe now that Jesus Christ came and died on the cross for my sins and that He rose again from the dead. Lord Jesus, I receive you now as my personal Saviour. Please save my soul right now. Lord, thank you for the free gift of eternal life. Amen.”

You might be thinking right now that it was too simple to get, but God made it simple for us to get eternal life.

But that doesn’t mean it was simple or easy for God to provide it. God had to die a cruel death as a sinless man to save you and me. If you prayed that prayer sincerely, then welcome to the family of God. God never turns away a sinner who is sincere.

John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

John 6:37 “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”
